The question of “Am I eligible for the IAS Exam” is very common. To put it to rest, here are the two essential criteria a civil aspirant should fulfil.
· Nationality:
For the IAS and IPS exam, the candidate has to be an Indian; but for other civil services the candidate can be:
· Citizens of India, Bhutan or Nepal.
· A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 Jan 1962 and planned to settle here permanently.
· A person of Indian origin who shifted from the following countries and planned to settle here permanently:
· Pakistan
· Sri Lanka
· Burma
· East African countries
· Vietnam
· Ethiopia
It should be noted that subjects of Nepal and Bhutan and Tibetan Refugees can sit for the IFS exam.
· Age:
For the IAS Exam 2020, a candidate’s age should be 21 to 32 years. The age limit varies for specific categories. Those are described below:
· If you fall within SC or ST quota, the upper age limit (32) is extended by 5 years.
· If you fall within OBC quota or are a defence service personnel, the upper age limit is extended by 3 years.
